Leadership Award
About the Award
On its 20th Anniversary in 1997, the Center inaugurated the Leadership Award. Each year this award singles out a public servant whose actions demonstrate some part of what the Center for Public Justice represents. The point is not simply to praise a leader but to encourage that leader, and all who take notice, to keep on keeping on in the pursuit of justice. We seek to encourage creative approaches to reform public life that can inspire others.
At the same time that the Center presents this award, it also gives a monetary gift and recognition to a non-governmental service organization that demonstrates by hands-on service what we want public policy to encourage in the nongovernmental sector of society. With each passing year, the Center hopes that the accumulated awards become a litany of testimonials that serve to illuminate a positive political path, thereby also helping to overcome cynicism about government and society.
