While faith-based organizations have historically relied on individual donor funding models, many organizations are looking to expand their capacity through grant funding. Yet, from the listening session conducted by CPJ in 2024, many organizations described not knowing how to begin looking for funding sources or what organization would fund them. This portion of the toolkit is designed to provide insights on approaching funding sources and increasing capacity.
The purpose of this section is not to provide a step-by-step guide to applying for a grant, though we have linked resources that might be helpful for that end. Rather, the purpose of this portion of the resource is to communicate unique insights for faith-based organizations looking to understand available funding options and develop a strategy for approaching potential funders.
