Families Valued

Through the Families Valued program, the Center for Public Justice promotes public policies and workplace practices that help families flourish.

Our Focus & Impact

Families Valued conducts research, convenes partners, and educates citizens. The program orients its work around two core principles: that families are the foundation of healthy communities and societies and that all work, including family caregiving, has inherent dignity. Motivated by these principles, CPJ promotes:

  • Paid family leave and pregnancy accommodation
  • Maternal healthcare access and family-oriented benefits
  • A child care ecosystem that serves America’s diverse families well

What is a Family Worth?

CPJ’s Paid Family Leave Advocacy Toolkit provides resources, guidelines, and tips on the why, what, and how of advocating for a permanent paid leave program for the benefit of all American families. The toolkit names the biblical and statistical basis for paid family leave and will prepare you and a team to reach out to lawmakers through letters, emails and personal meetings.

Families Valued Community Calls

CPJ’s Families Valued program is a community of Christians who gather and work together to build a common life that supports all families. Together, we imagine and advocate for better workplaces, communities, and public policies for families based on our lived experience and by listening to our neighbors. To build this imagination and learn together, we gather quarterly for zoom community calls. These conversations help participants gain insights that strengthen their faith and learn information they can use to speak out on behalf of their own and others’ families. Community calls include Biblical text studies, Families Valued program updates, and more practical ways to support pro-family policies. As Dr. Joshua Wu, a leader with the Asian American Christian Collaborative, shared in a Families Valued community call: “When we help families grow and thrive, our churches are stronger, our communities are stronger, our culture is stronger, our companies are stronger, and, in fact, our country is stronger.”

Each year, the Families Valued community calls are rooted in a different theme to help guide our conversations and work. In 2025, our theme is “A Common Life Filled with Unique Experiences,” which will explore how our individual experiences intersect to build a communal life in which we are all interconnected and responsible.

Get Involved: State-Level Advocacy

One way to be a part of influencing the policies that impact families is by advocating in your state to expand access to pre and post-natal healthcare coverage, paid sick days and paid family leave. Some states have already expanded access to these programs but other states still need passionate advocates to encourage their policymakers to prioritize these issues.  If you live in Texas, North Carolina, or Georgia there are opportunities to engage in advocating for families.
