Better Together
Imagine for a moment that you are sharing a cup of coffee with your local city council member. After some small talk about the weather and the commute, you ask: Where do you see brokenness and beauty in our city?
What do you think they would say?
Our guess is they might begin to name places, people, and even some policies. They might mention the group that provides a delicious meal to those experiencing homelessness every Tuesday afternoon; the team that restored the local park to become a beloved playground just last week; or the crew that offers an after-school program for the local elementary school. If you were to dig a little deeper into their answer, you might discover a web of organizations, many whose mission is motivated by their religious convictions, working alongside government to address the most pressing needs of the day.
You would find stories of faith-based organizations planting seeds of beauty, goodness, and justice amidst areas of brokenness. These organizations seek to be at work wherever they are needed, and government recognizes that it cannot provide adequate responses on its own.
Yet these stories of partnerships between government and faith-based organizations are often never told.
At the Center for Public Justice, we are changing that.
We are creating more opportunities for leaders in every area of society to consider and celebrate the beautiful, yet often hidden, work of faith-based organizations.
We imagine a future where government and institutions of various forms collaborate ever more effectively to help communities flourish. We are starting by telling stories of partnerships here in the nation’s capital.
To complement these stories, we will also be releasing a set of simple resources for faith-based organizations considering what partnership with government might entail.
Starting September 17, 2025, The Center for Public Justice presents:

Better Together: A storytelling series on how faith-based organizations have partnered with government to see their communities flourish.
